It’s National Weather Festival time!

NSSL is preparing for the fourth annual National Weather Festival on Saturday, November 8, 2008 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. at the National Weather Center. Organizers are anticipating crowds of 2000-3000 visitors.

The Norman Chamber of Commerce Weather Committee, the University of Oklahoma weather units and the NOAA Weather Partners, including NSSL, sponsor the free festival.

NSSL staff volunteers are planning to lead tours of the NWC and give weather-related presentations. This year’s events include a National Weather Center Open House, weather balloon launches with local TV meteorologists, the 3rd Annual Storm Chaser Car Show, weather-related information and product booths, and an amateur radio demonstration. Three rooms will be dedicated to children’s activities including weather puzzles, face tattoos, PBS Cyberchase items and a Lightning Ball.

Background: The National Weather Festival aims to reach out to the community by providing opportunities to learn about operational weather activities, current research and to promote interest in weather to people of all ages
