| Experience: | Steve is originally from Alabama and served as an Air Force Weather Officer for ten years before becoming a research associate with OU CIMMS. During his time with the Air Force, Steve specialized in flight weather at Tinker Air Force Base (1992-1995), served as a forecaster in Guam (1997-2000), worked on Air Force acquisitions programs in New Mexico (2004-2009), and finally served as the Radar Operations Applications Branch Chief here in Norman, Oklahoma from 2009-2012. He is proud to have been part of the team that transitioned Dual Pol radar to the NEXRAD network. |
| What He Does: | Steve came to OU CIMMS in January 2014, when he was hired as a research associate with the Hydro-Met group. The team has been instrumental in developing the Multi-Radar Multi-Sensor program with NSSL, which was awarded the Department of Commerce’s Silver Medal award in July 2015. Recently, he was listed as lead author on a scientific article published in the AMS Journal of Hydrometeorology, entitled “MRMS QPE Performance during the 2013/14 Cool Season”. | Trivia: | Steve enjoys music, and says that there is no such thing as a bad time to play guitar! He also likes pondering ‘campy’ TV series and movies, and can often be found outdoors fishing and gardening in the spring. |
